Straightening curly or wavy hair can be a fun way to change up your look. You can straighten your hair with chemicals or a straightener, but to maintain your appearance, it must be kept straight overnight. On the other hand, there are also several ways that you can straighten wavy hair overnight without the need to use hazardous equipment such as chemicals or hair straighteners. How to straighten your hair or keep it straight overnight is quite simple, and it can also shorten the time you have to get ready in the morning.
Step
Method 1 of 3: Wrapping Hair
Step 1. Start with damp hair
You'll want to wet your hair because it's easier to comb and stretch your hair straight when it's wet. You can do this by washing your hair, or just spraying water on your hair. If you wash your hair, be sure to apply conditioner afterward.
If you're going to wash your hair before straightening it, consider using a shampoo and conditioner that contains softening ingredients, such as argan oil. This will help prepare your hair for better results than using regular shampoo and conditioner
Step 2. Comb all the hair
Make sure your hair is not tangled before wrapping it around your head. Use a fine toothed comb or hair brush.
Be patient and comb your hair gently. Deal with tangled hair strand by strand without having to pull it too hard slowly
Step 3. Apply tea tree oil, argan oil, or other hair oil
Pour a small amount of oil into your palms and run it through your hair. The oil will lock the moisture in the hair.
- Avoid using water-based moisturizers. This type of moisturizer can make your hair curly or wavy again.
- Make sure to massage the oil all the way to the ends of your hair. This is because there is less natural oil that protects this section of hair.
Step 4. Part the hair
Start by parting the hair in the middle with a comb or hair brush.
- Start from the front to the back.
- Brush sideways half the hair, toward the back of the ear.
- Brush the other half of your hair behind your neck and over your other shoulder.
Step 5. Wrap each section of hair around your head
Start by taking a section of hair from the top of one side of your head and combing it to the other side.
- Hold the roots of this section of hair with your palms so that they don't bulge or wavy due to the movement of the comb.
- Run the ends of this section behind your ears and around the nape of your neck.
- Gently wind it until all of your hair is arranged around your ears and neck.
Step 6. Brush each section of hair down
Take a bristle brush and run it through each section of hair you just finished combing. This will help hold them together and flatten them on the head.
- This step is the key to getting straight hair. Placing your hair tightly and evenly on top of your head will keep it straight.
- Be sure to hold the top end of your hair with your palm to prevent it from sticking out.
Step 7. Use bobby pins to hold each section of hair in position
This will make the remaining ends of the hair easier to comb. The more layers of hair you add, the easier this step will be.
- Comb the ends of your hair over your head and attach the bobby pins.
- Continue by smoothing it using a bristle brush to make it more blended.
Step 8. Comb back the last section of hair
Comb until everything is arranged and around the head. Smooth the entire section of hair you've combed again with a bristle brush, then attach hair clips to hold it in place.
Step 9. Wrap your head in a silk or satin scarf to keep your hair from moving
Place a tight hat over the scarf to keep it all together. This hat will prevent your hair from being pulled open while you sleep.
Step 10. Take off your hat and scarf in the morning
Gently untwist the hair, one layer at a time. Your hair should look straight, although it may still need to be combed and styled a bit to straighten it to perfection.
Method 2 of 3: Using a Hair Band
Step 1. Start with damp hair
You can wash your hair or spray your hair with water. If you wash your hair, be sure to apply conditioner afterward.
Wet hair is easier to comb and straighten
Step 2. Comb the hair with a wide-toothed comb or hairbrush
Make sure the hair is not tangled. Comb the hair as long and straight as possible.
Step 3. Part the hair in half
The easiest way is to split it in the middle. Make sure that the part of your hair is straight and that both sections of your hair are flat against your head.
Step 4. Make two ponytails at the bottom of the head
Use a soft hair band to secure the knot. Do not tie too tightly or the marks will be obvious on the hair.
- Do not use an uncoated hair band to secure the ponytail. These rubber bands can get caught between strands of hair and make them tangle.
- Comb the ends of each ponytail once again.
Step 5. Tie the hair band again along the length of the ponytail
Leave a distance between each tie of about 2.5 cm. This will hold the ponytail while keeping your hair straight overnight.
- Remember, don't let the rubber band leave a mark when you remove it.
- Again, make sure that the knot is not too tight.
Step 6. Remove the hair band in the morning
Comb the hair to smooth it out. The hair should be straight.
- Do not let the hair wet because it will make it curl again.
- If you need to moisturize your hair, use an oil like tea tree or argan oil.
Method 3 of 3: Keeping Hair Straight Overnight
Step 1. Prep your hair before going to bed
Apply serum or hair oil to keep hair straight. A hair oil or serum will help moisturize your hair, reduce frizz, and prevent curls from becoming dry.
If you use a smoothing serum before drying or straightening your hair, you can use the same product before bed. A serum that protects your hair from the heat of a straightener or dryer will also protect it from the heat and humidity that your head generates during sleep
Step 2. Pin the hair flat
You can keep your hair straight by wrapping it around your head and pinning it. Part the hair into sections according to the thickness of the hair. Take each part, comb or brush until straight, wrap it around your head, then pinch.
You'll need to determine the correct order of the sections of hair to wrap as you will be arranging them on top of your head, and pinning each layer evenly over the previous layer
Step 3. Wrap the head
To keep your hair flat, while reducing tangling, you should buy a hair towel and wrap it tightly around your head. It may feel uncomfortable at first, but these towels can keep your hair straight and beautiful.
If you don't have a hair towel, you can use old nylon stockings instead. Gently insert the elastic around the head
Step 4. Style your hair in the morning
If your hair is even slightly wet, such as from sweating at night, use a hair dryer to dry it before you untie the bobby pins. Unwrap the hair and gently remove the bobby pins. Gradually untangle your hair, making sure to smooth out any tangled hair that you've pinned overnight.
