In addition to using a conventional electric or gas oven, you can also use a microwave to bake cakes. Use the microwave to bake birthday or party cakes, or bake an attractive cake in a mug as an after-dinner snack. The following recipe is for a family-size chocolate chip cookie, or a chocolate chip cookie that bakes in the microwave in less than a minute. Some creative frosting ideas are also below the recipe.
Ingredients
Mok Cake
- 1 egg
- 2 tablespoons brown sugar
- 1/2 teaspoon vanilla extract
- 3 tablespoons self-rising flour (flour that has been mixed with the developer)
- 1 tablespoon butter or margarine
- 2 tablespoons of chocolate chips
Whole Cake
- 3/4 cup margarine
- 3/4 cup sugar
- 2/3 cup self-rising flour
- 1/3 cup cocoa powder
- 3 tablespoons milk
- 3 medium-sized eggs
- 1 teaspoon baking powder
- 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
Step
Method 1 of 3: Baking Mok Cake in the Microwave
Step 1. Choose the mock to use
You can use any type of mok to make a cake. A larger, taller mold will make for a softer, moister cake. While the smaller and shorter mok will make a harder cake.
Step 2. Make the cake dough
Add two tablespoons of brown sugar or white sugar to the bowl. Add 1/2 teaspoon vanilla extract and 3 tablespoons flour.
You can use plain flour if self-rising flour is not available. However, the cake will have a brownie-like texture
Step 3. Put the eggs in the mok
Using a mok means you don't have to clean anything, and you just have to throw the eggshells in the trash.
Step 4. Add butter (butter)
Coat the top of the mok with butter and add 1 tablespoon of butter to the mok. You can use butter (salted or unsalted), or margarine.
Step 5. Add 1 or 2 tablespoons of chocolate chips (optional)
The addition of chocolate chips will add a chocolate flavor to the cake. If you want to make a vanilla cake, you can add 1 tablespoon of extra vanilla extract instead.
Step 6. Mix the dough
Use a spoon to knead the dough in the mug. Stir until the chocolate chip crumbles, or all ingredients are well combined. There's no need to worry about the top of the mug looking messy as the cake will rise in the microwave.
Step 7. Bake a mock cake
Put the mok in the microwave and bake for 50 seconds on full power. After 50 seconds, check that the cake is baked by sticking a toothpick into the center of the cake. When the cake is done, the toothpick will stay clean when you remove it. If there is still cake residue stuck to the toothpick, put the mok back in the microwave and bake at 30 second intervals until done.
- Don't bake the cake too long. The cake will dry out if you bake it in the microwave for too long. Cakes should not be baked for more than 2 minutes.
- No need to worry about cake cavities caused by toothpicks. The hole will not be visible after coating later.
Step 8. Set the cake aside
Microwaves often don't distribute heat as evenly as ovens. Place the cake on the table and let it sit for 1-2 minutes after baking so that the heat is evenly distributed throughout the mug.
Step 9. Enjoy the cake
Take a spoon and taste the cake. If you want, you can layer and decorate the cake first.
Be careful when removing the mok from the microwave. Use oven mitts or a towel to lift it, as the mug may be too hot to handle
Method 2 of 3: Microwave Baking Whole Cakes
Step 1. Mix the cake batter
In a large bowl, combine 3/4 cup room temperature butter or margarine with 3/4 cup sugar and 2/3 cup flour. Stir with a spoon or rubber spatula.
You can use plain flour if you don't have self-rising flour, but the cake will have a brownie-like texture
Step 2. Add the rest of the ingredients
Pour in 3 tablespoons of milk, 3 medium eggs, 1 teaspoon of baking powder, and 1 teaspoon of vanilla extract.
You can use whole milk, fat-free milk, 2%, or any type of milk you want
Step 3. Add flavorings
For the chocolate cake, add 1/3 gram of cocoa powder. For the vanilla cake, add another 1 teaspoon of vanilla extract.
Step 4. Mix the ingredients
Knead the dough evenly with a fork or mixer for 4-5 minutes until the texture is smooth. If you have a food processor, you can stir all the ingredients in a food processor for 60 seconds.
Step 5. Pour the cake batter into a microwave-safe container
Never use a metal pan when baking a cake in the microwave.
A container that is not too tall will likely give you the best quality cake
Step 6. Bake the cake
Microwave the cake for 3-4 minutes on full power. Just like in the oven, the cake will bubble and expand. When it starts to rise (it will still move), turn off the microwave.
- Check that the cake is done by sticking a toothpick into the center of the cake. When the cake is done, the toothpick will stay clean when you remove it. If there's still cake left on the toothpick, put the cake back in the microwave and bake at 1 minute intervals until done.
- Don't bake the cake too long. The cake will dry out if you bake it in the microwave for too long.
Step 7. Enjoy the cake
Served warm, this cake will be very soft and delicious. Cover the top with frosting and decorate the cake to your liking.
Method 3 of 3: Layering and Decorating the Cake
Step 1. Choose whatever frosting you want
You can buy ready-made frosting or make your own. Try chocolate, vanilla, lemon, or whatever flavor you like best. Experiment with different flavors to find your favorite frosting.
- Cool the cake before coating it so the icing doesn't melt.
- Make sufficient amount of frosting. It's better to have the frosting left over than to run out before you finish decorating the cake.
Step 2. Decorate the cake with frosting
Use a long rubber spatula or spoon to spread the room-temperature frosting on the surface of the cake.
Step 3. Decorate the cake with fresh fruits
Thinly slice fresh strawberries and place them on top of the frosting in a pattern or at random. Cover with seedless jam.
- You can replace strawberries with mangoes, bananas, or other softer textured fresh fruits according to taste.
- If you are using fresh fruit, add fruit at the end of the process. If the fruit is wet, the frosting may change position or melt slightly.
Step 4. Add meses
The addition of meses is a great way to make the cake more colorful. You can also add a little meses to the cookie dough before baking it.
Step 5. Add other sweet ingredients
Place some mini marshmallows on top of the cake to make it sweeter. Sprinkle a little powdered sugar on the marshmallows.
Step 6. Add chocolate
If you want a crunchy chocolate cake, sprinkle the candies that have been crushed into small pieces on top of the cake. You can also sprinkle chocolate chips.
Step 7. Sprinkle the grated coconut
Coconut can be mixed into cake batter or used as a cake garnish. Coconut is a healthier version of the garnish than meses or other sweeteners and makes the cake look even better. Cover the cake with a little frosting and sprinkle the grated coconut on top.
Coconut is so light that it can be added to many cakes, from light cakes like vanilla and lemon to richer flavors like chocolate and carrots
Step 8. Sprinkle nuts
You can cover the entire cake (top to bottom) or sprinkle it on top of the cake.
If you're making chocolate cake, pecans make a great garnish
Tips
- Unlike an oven, a microwave will not turn the top of the cake golden brown. If you're baking a vanilla cake, the color may look a little pale. You can add a few tablespoons of cocoa or ground coffee to make the cake appear more colorful.
- When you're done baking in the microwave, always let the cake sit for 1 or 2 minutes. This will allow the heat to spread evenly throughout the cake.
- The total amount of time required for preparation, baking and cleaning is approximately 20 minutes. You will have plenty of time to enjoy the delicious snacks that have been made.
- Buy some mockups as gifts and give them to a friend with a delicious cake inside.
