This wikiHow teaches you how to buy or make your own ringtones for iPhone. You can purchase them directly from the iTunes Store on your device, or use GarageBand on your phone to create ringtones from saved songs.

Method 1 of 2: Buying Ringtones from iTunes Store
Step 1. Open the iTunes Store app on the phone
Tap the iTunes Store icon, which looks like a white star on a magenta background.
Step 2. Touch Genres
It's in the upper-left corner of the iTunes Store window. A drop-down menu with various genre options will be displayed.
Step 3. Scroll down and select Tones
It's at the bottom of the drop-down menu after you tap the " Genres " button in the upper-left corner of the screen. A special menu for ringtones will open.
Step 4. Touch the genre or select All Tones
If you're looking for a ringtone of a specific genre, tap the appropriate genre. You can also choose All Tones ” at the top of the menu.
Step 5. Find the ringtone you want to use
Browse the list of ringtones until you find the option you want to purchase.
- Touch the tab " Search ” to search for a specific ringtone, then select the tab “ Ringtones ” below the search bar.
- You can touch the ringtone cover to hear a sample.
Step 6. Touch the ringtone price button
It's on the right side of the ringtone. A pop-up menu will open after that.
Step 7. Select Set as Default Ringtone if you want
You can also set a ringtone as the main tone for short messages or assign it to a specific contact.
Skip this step by touching the “ Done ”.
Step 8. Switch to Touch ID or Face ID, or enter your Apple ID password when prompted
The ringtone will be downloaded to the phone afterwards.
Step 9. Set the ringtone via the device settings menu (“Settings”)
You can use the settings menu to set the downloaded ringtone as the primary ringtone for all incoming calls. You can also assign it to specific contacts:
- Main/common ringtone - Go to phone settings menu or “ Settings ”, scroll the screen and select “ Sounds & Haptics " (or " Sounds ” on some iPhones), select “ Ringtones ”, and touch the name of the ringtone you want to use.
- Specific contact - Go to “ Contacts ”, select the contact you want, select “ Edit ", touch " Ringtones ”, select the ringtone you want to use, select “ Done ” in the upper right corner of the screen, and touch again “ Done ” to save changes.
Method 2 of 2: Using Non-iTunes Tracks
Step 1. Connect your iPhone or iPad to the computer
Use the charging cable that came with your iPhone or iPad purchase to connect your device to your computer.
Step 2. Open iTunes
The iTunes app is marked with a white icon with two musical notes. Click the icon from the “Start” menu on a Windows computer, or the “Applications” folder on a Mac.
Make sure your computer has the latest version of iTunes
Step 3. Find your own ringtone on the computer
Use Finder on a Mac computer or Windows Explorer on a Windows computer to access your own custom ringtones on your computer.
Step 4. Select all ringtones
Click a ringtone to select it. If you want to select multiple options, press and hold the “ Ctrl ” (Windows) or “ Command ” (Mac), then click all files.
Step 5. Right-click the file and select Copy
This option is in the menu that appears after right-clicking the file on PCs and Mac computers.
If you're using a magic mouse or trackpad on a Mac, you can perform the right-click mechanism by clicking with two fingers
Step 6. Go back to the iTunes window and click on Library
This tab is the first tab at the top of the iTunes window.
Step 7. Click the device icon
This icon looks like an iPhone or iPad. It's usually next to the drop-down menu in the upper-left corner of the iTunes window. The device content library will be displayed.
Step 8. Click Tones
It's in the sidebar menu in the lower-left side of the iTunes window. A list of device ringtones will be displayed.
Step 9. Click Edit
It's in the menu bar at the top of the iTunes window.
Step 10. Click Paste
The copied ringtone will be pasted into the device's iTunes library.
- Alternatively, you can drag and drop the ringtone's audio file into your device's " Tones " folder in the left sidebar of the iTunes window.
- You can also delete old ringtones from your device's " Tones " folder through iTunes.
