Good morning is a common greeting in Japan, and it is considered polite to greet friends and strangers before 10pm. There are two ways to say good morning in Japanese, namely casual everyday language and polite formal language.
Step
Method 1 of 2: Informal
Step 1. Say "ohayo"
Literally, "ohayo" means "good morning", and is pronounced "o-ha-yo".
Step 2. Bow your head slightly when saying good morning to friends and family members
This is a non-formal movement if you are from outside Japan, and don't understand the Japanese bowing rule.
Method 2 of 2: Formal
Step 1. Say "ohayo gozaimasu"
The sentence is pronounced "o-ha-yo go-za-i-mas", with the letter "u" not being pronounced.
Step 2. Follow the greeting by lowering your body by bending your waist 30-90 degrees if you are greeting someone in a polite and formal manner, or if greeting a boss
When in Japan, this is a suitable way to formally greet people.
