This wikiHow teaches you how to use Instagram's search feature. On Instagram, you can search for anything from specific topics and hashtags to users, both through the mobile app and the desktop site.

Method 1 of 2: On Mobile Devices
Step 1. Open Instagram
Tap the Instagram icon which looks like a multicolored square camera. The main Instagram page will be displayed if you are already logged in to your account.
If not, enter your email address (or phone number/username) and account password before continuing
Step 2. Touch the “Search” icon
It's a magnifying glass icon in the lower-left corner of the screen.
Step 3. Touch the search bar
This bar is at the top of the screen. The keyboard will load on the screen and several filter tabs will be displayed at the top of the screen.
Step 4. Select a file
At the top of the " Search " page, touch one of the following tabs:
- ” Top ” - This option displays a list of the most popular (or relevant) users, hashtags and places that match the search entry.
- ” People ” - This option only shows users whose usernames match the search entry.
- ” Tags ” - This option only shows hashtags that match the search entry.
- ” Places ” - This option only shows locations that match the search entry.
Step 5. Enter the search keywords
Type in whatever you want to search for, then touch the “ Search ' on the keyboard.
- On the Android device, touch “ Enter ” or the magnifying glass icon instead of the “button Search ”.
- When searching for hashtags, you don't need to include the hashtag symbol (“#”) in the search entry.
- You may need to touch the search bar again after selecting a filter before the keyboard is displayed.
Step 6. Review the search results
Browse the list of search results to review the options found.

Method 2 of 2: On Desktop Site
Step 1. Open Instagram
Visit https://www.instagram.com/ through your computer's web browser. The main Instagram page will be displayed if you are already logged in to your account.
If not, click the link " Log in ” and enter your account login information before continuing.
Step 2. Click the search bar
It's at the top of the page, right next to the "Instagram" heading.
Step 3. Enter the search keywords
Type in the name, word, or location you want to search for.
Step 4. Review the search results
As you type an entry, you can see a drop-down menu below the search bar. In this menu, you can see the search results. You can scroll through the list of search results to browse the search entries as needed.
